Solving the mysteries of macramé?

What is macramé?

Macrame differentiates from weaving, knitting or courgette as it is available without any supplies, sewing and equipment (except if one uses a mannequin, and some pins to hold the strings on that mannequin) - each loop of knot is produced only by hands. The knots are detachable, and you can trim them any time.

Everybody knows the technique used on hanging wall art or as for a plant hanger, but it can be so much more. For anything to be considered a ‘macrame' it should consolidate at least one knot. And the possibilities are endless! You can craft from bags to wall hangers, dream catchers and clothes! You can make beaded versions of macrame designs too. Basically anything is possible!

When producing macrame clothing several knots are put together to create a pattern or patterns that finally form a ready item. It can either be knotted piece by piece, and then weaved all together, OR as a whole sequence step by step for example on a mannequin as we do at TAIKA.

Handcrafted clothes

All designs at TAIKA store are handcrafted, each art piece being unique as the tightness of the knots, or the thickness of the rope may vary. Therefore there is no two identical pieces.

Handmade macrame tops and other designs are surely a unique way to express your rare beauty! Wearing a designed handmade garment is a statement in itself.

Making something out of fibre string by hand takes some time. In the modern world good old craft work has been replaced mostly by industrial machinery or a robot software that can produce automatically faster and bigger quantities than what a single person can by hand.

Hence, handmade products bear far more value as someone put their time and intention into a service of making that garment or a piece of jewelry. Also handicrafts have a really big part in reviving old traditions and keeping them alive.
